Non-Dairy Protein Powders

“How in the world am I going to get enough protein in per day?” This was one of my biggest questions and concerns while switching over to my dairy-free lifestyle! As a fitness enthusiast and avid weight lifter, I rely on protein powder every day to help me meet my minimum protein needs.

The issue here is that some of the best-tasting and most-effective proteins on the market are whey-based which is now a no-no for me and my digestive system.

So what is a meat-head to do?

Below I’ve listed my top-3 favorite non-dairy (and gluten-free) protein powders and my favorite uses for them!

#1: Garden of Life Sport Protein

Favorite Flavor: Vanilla

Texture: Super Smooth! I even mix in RenewLife Organic Clear Fiber in to add some carbs and improve my fiber intake.

Favorite Use: Drink it as is – two scoops protein, three scoops fiber, and shake it up with water. Done and done. Mix it into other things like Glutenfreeda Oatmeal for a well-balanced yummy breakfast! I usually add a dash of honey in there too, just for fun! 😉

#2: Vega Sport Protein

Favorite Flavor: Vega Sport Vanilla

Texture: a bit grainy, so it’s not my favorite to drink as is

Favorite Use: I use this for a post-workout smoothie (with berries and almond milk – YUM) or to mix in pancake mix or in oats.

#3: Paleo Egg White Protein

Favorite Flavor: Unflavored

Texture: Seamless

Favorite use: Baking items or with smoothies. It’s also actually unflavored!

Is there one that is not on this (very short) list that you want to recommend? Another brand or flavor? What is your favorite use for it? Let me know!

  1. This is really helpful. I’ve been looking for a great protein powder, but it seems like there are a million to choose from! Thanks for the recommendations.

    1. Yep – Specifically, I have been liking the “Sport” version since it’s a bit smoother in texture and mixes like a whey protein powder normally would.

  2. Love this! I’ve been lactose intolerant for a few years now so have avoided any kind of protein powders. I do want to try and start working out more so I think I’ll definitely have to give these a try!

    1. Yes these are awesome! Another one I am going to add to the list – is “Garden of Life Sport” which has a super smooth texture and not quite as grainy as some can be.
